SM Cardinal speech place first at first tourney

The Staples Motley High School Cardinal speech team had a spectacular opener to their competitive season at the Cass Lake Bena speech tournament held January 21, taking home first place by a healthy margin.

The following speakers received medals or ribbons of recognition: Creative expression, Joshua Cushing (5th); Discussion, Sabina Moe (black ribbon); Dramatic Interpretation, Cyril Johnson (1st), Brynn Bestland (6th), Sarah Kroll (black ribbon); Duo Interpretation, Caden Mrazek and Luke Bates (1st); Extemporaneous Reading, Walker Johnson (4th); Great Speeches, Brynn Bestland (1st), Raina Mikhael (3rd); Humorous Interpretation, Laken Hines (3rd), AJ Nienow (5th); Informative Speaking, tied based on preliminary ranks, Keegan Bestland (1st), Olivia Opheim (2nd), Andy Daniels (black ribbon); Original Oratory, Estella Bock (6th); Poetry Reading, Grace Allen (6th), Riley Dabbs (black ribbon); Prose Reading, Grace Allen (3rd), Luke Bates (black ribbon), Walker Johnson (black ribbon); Storytelling, Keegan Bestland (1st), Caden Mrazek (2nd), Laken Hines (5th).

The SM Cardinal speech team will compete Feb. 11 in their home meet, hosted by the Staples Host Lions.
